The power of the pack and the internal dynamics of a pack are beyond what most of us owners think about or anticipate until after we have added the second (or third dog). Many owners get a companion for their (solo) dog and not until a few weeks later do they realize if this was a wise (or bad) choice to make. The change from 'no dogs' to 'one dog' is dramatic, but the change form 'one dog' to 'more than one' is just as intense if you are not prepared for it... it is just not that there are now two food bowls to fill, an extra doggie bed to buy, etc.
